It will be cheaper to make than purchasing new but, if you will not finish the project, do not waste your money.

It is a long shot but, you can find solar panels in second hand stores and flea markets. Of course, these will be used or damaged in some way. If you do not know what to look for, take a friend or do some research on your own. You do not want to be taken for a fool. Do not be afraid to talk extensively with the person in charge. You will be buying a product and you deserve to have your requests answered.
Another avenue you may want to travel is placing advertisements in newspapers or magazines. You may also want to put some ads online requesting the item you are looking for. May sure you give full information so the person will not be inclined to contact you unless he or she has exactly what you want.
No matter how you try to find this item, be sure you write down any questions you may have. Writing them down before the conversation gives you a chance to think of all the pros and cons of your undertaking. Remember when you are contacted to write down the name and contact information of each person. You may get several inquiries, or you may get none.
